[rsnapshot-discuss] Date stamp on monthly rsnapshots

I recently set up rsnapshots to run daily, weekly & monthly. I checked
today to make sure the monthlies are working. Monthly is set up in cron to
run on the 1st of the month. I noticed that the most recent monthly time
stamp I have is 02-Jul-16 so I thought it hadn't run. So I ran it from the
command line, expecting the date stamp to be today's date (07-Aug-16). It
ran successfully but the time stamp was 09-Jul-16.

Can someone please explain why that would be the case? I thought it might
be to do with the date of one of the weeklies, but they're dated 16-Jul-16,
23-Jul-16 and 29-Jul-16.

As it is documented, I could tell you to go read it.


However, the short version is that the monthly rotation is taking the
oldest weekly rotation and making it the newest monthly.0. Similarly,
the weekly rotation is taking the oldest daily and making it weekly.0.
